approximating re-eq?

The THX re-eq curve goes approximately as follows:

The "curve" is flat to about 2K, where the roll off begins. At 7K it is about -2dB and the drop becomes a relatively straight negative slope. By 10K it is at -4dB and the curve begins to level out again. The curve is once again relatively flat (although still slightly descending) at 20K where it has reached about -5.5 or -6 dB.

In list form:
0 at 2K
-1dB at 5.5K
-2dB at 7K
-3dB at 8.8K
-4dB at 10K
-5dB at 12K
-5.5dB to -6dB at 20K

Note that I have seen more than one graph showing slightly different curves depending on what processor was used to obtain the results (I believe that Lucasfilm has still not published the official curve specifications.) They all seem to start at the same point, but some tend to end up with a stronger drop -- I have seen graphs that show a full 9dB drop by 20K.

I hope this helps -- I completely agree that re-eq is necessary to compensate for overly bright sound tracks.

Larry
