opinion on HK75 as preamp for Carver AV705

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.0; Windows 98):

I am looking for thoughts on HK/Carver combo and what 6 1/2 to 8' two way bookshelf speakers in the $600.00 US range will provide best musical reproduction. I do have a 10" Cambridge powered sub to augment lower end . Thanks,Charlie.
