Hmmmmmmmmm! The DTs you have are an easy load to drive, which makes this more wierd. Yes an external power amp would be the cure - if you can still buy a H/K PA-5800 from J&R Music World or a Carver AV-505 from various auction sites (liquidation stock) you can keep going for little money. You really should not be having this in my opinion.

As for a AC outlet supply problem, I feel iffy as for it being the problem. I do like the assurance you get from a good protection unit such as the Panamax models - even if you are not having a known problem.

I just thought of something - some Onkyo 656s had a signal dependant cooling fan, and later models had a change as I understand. If you have NO speakers on (simply turn the A speakers off as you would when using headphones), and turn the volume up from a cold start - does the fan come on?
