Where should I locate the monoblock amps?

More power is transmitted from the amps to the speakers hence you will suffer higher losses by making these cables longer. Also the longer the feedback loop from speaker to amplifier the less the amp is able to control the driver. This is less of a problem for a pure class A amp but is a big deal if you have a class B or hybrid with push-pull output circuitry. For a long pre-amp cable, since there is little power transferred hence low losses, your biggest problem will be interference. To minimize this use shielded cables, and get the details of the cable and shield construction. The best shield is a ferrous conduit, but assuming that's not an option, next are continuous extruded copper shields, then aluminium or mylar extruded shields. All wrapped shields or tape shields (copper/alum/mylar) offer virtually no RF shielding compared to unshielded cables. Once you narrow down your cable choices, try the ones with the lowest capacitance. BTW this doesn't apply if you have a passive pre-amp - you will have no choice but to place the amp close to the pre-amp.
