A couple of general stereo questions...
Posted by Tim M. [IP: 140.208.2.2] on July 30, 1999 at 12:06:30 Hi there, I'm just starting to research options for completing my stereo system. I'm a beginner and have a couple of questions... 1) I've learned that the ohms of all my speakers should match up (is that right?). I have 2 large speakers currently in the ceiling that were installed by the previous owner of my house. How can I tell what the impedance of the speakers already in my ceiling is? Could I run into real problems if they're 4 ohms and the speakers that I want to buy are 8 ohms? 2) The receivers that I've been looking at (Yamaha RXV995 & others in that same range) are generally in the area of outputting 80-100 watts per channel. Should I consider getting an additional amp, or is that sufficient? I'm not concerned about how loud the music is, but rather the quality of the sound. The salesperson at the local stereo store (Bryn Mawr Stereo) told me there was no need to add an additional amp. But I'd like an opinion from someone here -- will adding an extra amp do anything to provide higher quality sound to the speakers that I eventually buy? Thanks a lot for your help.... Tim
