Looking for opinions on Krell and Sunfire.

Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows NT):

So I am shopping right now for a good 5 channel amp to drive some Sonus Faber Grand Pianos and Concertino rears and solo center channel. Here is a little background -

I have read many messages regarding the "best" sound quality would be to split driving 5 channels into buying two seperate amps. A three channel for LCR and a two channel for rears, but I don't have this kind of budget. So I decided on getting a 5 channel amp.

I have been looking for a while finally knocked it down to Lexicon (Bryston), Krell, and Sunfire.

I am not happy with the bass response of the Lexico, too muddy, it is not bright enough for my ear and for the price it should be a lot cleaner besides for that price I might as well go for a Krell. So then that leaves it to Krell & Sunfire.

The Krell KAV-500 is hands down awesome I must say, but OUCH $5K is a lot, but here is where I get some twists. I can get one at a pretty good price, but I learned the reason why is because Krell is redesigning their case for the KAV-500 to match their new design. Blue light and all. So I would have the old style case. Nothing inside is changing just the case.

So onto the Sunfire. I have found a lot of people like the Sunfire, and I do too. It sure does sound a lot better... about $2500 cheaper better. I like the response from this amp. Nice and light, but not too bright to wear your ear down. It kicks out the mid levels too. It doesn't run too warm either, but Krell does have a "better" sound in general.

So I am looking for some opinions on what you all might think about these two amps compared. Maybe I am just looking for someone to say "Hey its okay David you can buy the cheaper one, you don't have to spend $5K for an amp." I dunno, and thoughts anyone?

Thanks in advance,

-David
