A/V Receivers

Using Mozilla/4.04 [en] (Win95; I):

Here is my dilemna. I am looking at starting an entertainment system. Right now i don't have anything. my stereo cannot support suround sound. I have a sony HIFI vcr but nothing other than that.. My dilemna is which Reciever to buy and get the best bang for the buck. I am trying to keep price less than $1000 and hopefully get a couple speakers with the system. So i guess more like A home theater package. Right now i am trying to decide which way to go and whether to get dvd player or the home theater system first. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
