Dave if YOU are happy with the sound from the sunfire than why bother posting the questions to second guess yourself. By all means take the plunge. I would agree with you that the KAV series is grossly overpriced and that comparable performance can be had elsewhere for less $$$. However, I would not hesitate to second your thought of pursuing a great 2-channel amp and supplementing your 5/6/7.1 system w/ a lesser quality multi-channel amp... all you will need to make this work is an spl meter and space on your rack. I did just that at your 5k price point w/ the krell you mentioned.

I picked up a classe 201 (retail 3k) and supplemented that with a 6 channel classe cav75 (bridged to 3 150 watt channels for $2k retail) and there was no comparisson when listening to stereo music out of any of the 5 channel amps I demoed (proceed amp5, bryston, and the kav.) But, you have to go with your gut & if your ears are telling you sunfire & you get a great pricebreak than go for it & enjoy.
