I would consider a HK PA5800 amp mated to a HK AVR5. Both units can be found at very reasonable prices. JR Sound (for the amp),Uncles, OneCall etc. You can probably get set up for around $700. The AVR5 is AC-3 ready and would provide ProLogic until you bought a AC-3/DTS enabled DVD player. Apply the remaining money towards an Energy Take5 speaker system (on sale at www.audioshop.on.ca). Maybe you could sell (or trade) your current system and pick up a DVD (or larger speakers). I believe the HK system described above would provide a good foundation for home theater/music and would be expandable for future formats and upgrades. Good Luck.
