i heard the new onkyo 575 was a VERY well outfitted piece for around 500 bucks, maybe less? also look at yamaha or harman/kardon dolby digital receivers and you really can't go wrong... as for speakers, you should be able to get more than adequate speakrs for 200 a pair front, 150 rear and 150'ish for a center. look at polk or psb. remember, if you have to go a little over budget on speakers it'll never go un-appreciated.

then, all you'll have to do is come up with 7 or 8 hundred for your sub and dvd player, and you'll be all set!
