YAMAHA DSP-A1 Major Problems!!
Posted by Tom Ziman [IP: 132.233.247.6] on August 30, 1999 at 13:25:38 I have a Yamaha DSP-A1 with a laserdisc connected to the LD input via the Composite video, and RCA Stereo connectors and nothing else (no digital/RF connections for the LD). I am feeding another Reciever from the TAPE2 REC output so I can give my outdoor speakers a signal. Here is the problem, when a CD/LD is playing in the LD player, and the other receiver is turned off, there is significant distortion introduced into the speakers conntected to the DSP-A1, also stereo imaging completely breaks down (sounds like an badly tuned FM radio station). When the reciever is turned on, it causes a slight volume drop in the left speaker, the volume then returns to normal levels and the distortion is gone and the stereo imaging are back as if there is nothing wrong. Turning the other reciever back off cauess degredation. I've connection numerous other components to the LD input and turning the reciever on/off causes the same exact problems with them too. This rules out the LD player. Next, if I remove the Reciever from the TAPE2 REC to the VCR2 OUT (or any other VCR output) then I can turn the Receiver on and off all I want and nothing happens to the output. Next, I tried hooking up my VCR's audio input to the TAPE2 out and turned the VCR on and off, nothign happens to the output of the speakers connected to the A1. I've also connected a TAPE deck to TAPE2 REC and turning it on and off and using hte REC funciton on the deck causes no degredation in sound. The only combo that causes problems is the TAPE2 REC (A1)--> ANY INPUT (Other Receiver). I've tried numberous inputs on the Pioneer and nothing fixes it. To complicate matters further, I replaced all cabling to with new cables (just in case of a short or something else) and the problem is still there. I have tried different electrical plugs, moving equipment around--NOTHING fixes it. This just happened this weekend when I moved my equipment to a new (larger) rack. I have been running that reciever off the TAPE2 REC output for more than a year and the problem just showed up, or maybe I just noticed it. Any ideas? I'm about to call Yamaha Tech Support for help, but I'd rather talk to "real" users before going the Tech route.
