Loudspeaker Hiss with Yamaha DSP-A2

Posted by William Hutton [IP: 193.130.129.195] on August 31, 1999 at 09:00:50
Using Mozilla/4.5 [en] (Win95; I):

I have a Yamaha DSP-A2 and am increasingly noticing a hissing sound from the speakers. During quiet periods of a film soundtrack the hiss is apparent and is the same from all 5 main speakers.

The same hiss is apparent whether the source is switched on or off and is the same from all inputs even though no component is connected to some. The level of hiss is higher when the phono input is selected.

The level of hiss is directly related to the volume level. I am typically listening with the volume control at the 10 O'clock or 11 O'clock position.

Maybe I have become too sensitive to the hissing sound, but wonder if anyone else has experienced the same problem ?.
