I have a further update on my hissing.

I tried all of the suggestions from Ken (Except the reversing of the power lead as it is hard wired into the amplifier) but unfortunately I could not detect an improvement.

However, I experimented with a few things and may have a further clue to the problem. If I select Effect Off or select the External Decoder input then the level of hissing is dramatically reduced to the level that I can only just hear it up close to the speakers.

I understand that either of these two setting will be bypassing the Analogue/Digital converters and the DSP circuits. This suggests that the problem is in this area. If I select one of the enhanced DSP modes then the level of hissing increases even from the main speakers. Again this suggests a problem with the DSP circuits.

I think I will talk to Yamaha about this problem.
