The salesman is right the Sony ES line of components are the high end of what Sony has to offer.

You are also on the right track when you suggest looking at the Yamaha 995.

Yamaha and Denon offer recievers in this class that are typically much better than Sony ES...

Try to do a side by side somewhere with the ES stuff vs Yamaha and Denon....
