Connecting a DVD with DD decoder to a power amp?

Posted by G. Murray [IP: 207.115.63.21] on October 16, 1999 at 11:07:16
Using Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows 98):

Is it practical to connect a DVD player with built in Dolby Digital decoder directly to a multichannel power amplifier?

I have a 5x150watt power amplifier and currently use 4 channels to biamp a pair of Paradigm Studio 100s. My CD player is dying and I would like to replace it with a DVD player or changer with an on-board decoder (Philips, Panasonic or Sony). I don't want to buy a new preamp until DVD-Audio equipment is available.

Will the level controls on the DVD player be adequate for controlling volume or is this unworkable. Thanks for your advice.
