I think the answer to this is no!

I had a similar requirement, but having sought opinions and read reviews it seems the best DVD players for CD audio playback are the Pioneer DV717 and the Sony 725S. These retail around £500.00 in the UK.

I have listened to the Pioneer but not the Sony. The Pioneer DVD player seemed to compare well with a Pioneer CD Player (can't remember which model) which retailed around £250.00.

I suspect a Marantz or Rotel CD player at around £250.00 would be much better than the DVD player. As the DV717 sounded a lot better than my 15 year old CD player I was reasonably ahappy to accept that. But I can't help feeling that I may have compromised my CD playback qulaity too much, and may well end up buying a decent (but used) CD player soon.

Good luck!

Stuart
