Yamaha DSP A1 vs Rotel Setup

It depends on your motives for going for separates. If you are assuming that the Rotel separates are better than the A1, then I would reconsider your options. I have not heard the RB-985 MkII setup, but I had the opportunity to listen to the RB-991 and RB-993 driving top-of-the-range Bostons. The Rotel system was definitely an excellent system compared to my A1, although it would be hard to say which one was better without doing an AB test. My purpose that day was to evaluate the Bostons against the B&Ws.

At the end-of-the-day, you will have to be the judge if the extra bucks is worth it. I would only go for the separate solution, if it is substantially better in the sonic area or if I wanted extra power say 200Wpc or more. I have put my money towards better speakers and cabling.
