Re-calibrating speaker levels for DTS?

I don't think this is correct. I don't have any technical specs to back me up but I have 2 or 3 films on laserdisc that are available in both DD and DTS. With my pre/pro set to the exact same levels, the DTS version ALWAYS sounds louder. I've played with the levels and have been able to find a setting where the DD version is comperable (but somehow still different -not better, just different).
