Need 5-channel amplifier recommendations.
Posted by Alex Lehmann [IP: 207.36.182.194] on February 28, 1999 at 18:37:37 I will soon be in the market for a 5/6-channel power amplifier for my home theater. I will be using my existing Yamaha RX-V2092 as a pre/pro until I can afford to get a better one (i.e. Sunfire, Lexicon, etc). I will be using B&W CDM7SE towers for the front main L/R speakers and a B&W CDMCSE for the center channel. My rear speakers will eventually be the new B&W 6.5" in-wall speakers. I am looking for a 5/6-channel amplifier (or any combination thereof, i.e. 3-channel amp + 2-channel amp) My budget is approximately $2500-$3000 and am looking for quality, not necessarily quantity. I think 150-250 watts/channel should be sufficient. I am also looking for an amplifier which will perform equally well for music as well as for movies. I listen to guitar and female vocals, so I like good, defined mid-range and sharp highs with controlled lows. I have been looking into B&K, Adcom, Cinepro, Classe, Parasound and Sunfire. Are there any others which I should even consider? Or are there any that I mentioned which I shouldn't consider? Need help. Thanks.
