Why is 40% of my tv black on DVD's?

: Yep. I agree. I've got a 60" and the black bars in Wide Screen presentations are hardly noticeable. I think the smaller the TV, the less enjoyable it would be to watch in letterboxed format.

I used to watch all my widescreen LD's on nothing bigger than a 27" Sony TV, and I thought it was fine, I'm more annoyed by the panning effect, and I'm big on composition, so that's why it didn't seem like a big deal to me, I'll sacrifice size for the integrity of the film I'm watching.

Now I have a 36" Mitsu. and it's not even an issue. It just takes getting used to, that's all :)
