: I think I recall reading either on these forums or over on Perry Sun's MSP forum that the original master of the T2 soundtrack did not oend itself to easy translation into DD 5.1. Maybe if Perry stops by here he could comment.

I have heard the 5.1 sound on the T2 DVD and am too disappointed with the LFE, which I thought sounded rather weak.

If anything could explain why, consider this. In many instances a 'consumer' 5.1 mix is created for DVD, HDTV, etc. When a 2-ch mixdown is created from the 5.1, the LFE is not used. If the LFE from the original theatrical mix contains not only specific bass effects, but also low freq information from the other channels, then, in creating a consumer 5.1 mix, bass content in the LFE may be redistributed among the main channels, or even reduced altogether.

This approach is to help keep the 5.1 and 2-ch mixdown from having radically different bass content. (Producers of home video are particularly keen on making sure that there is some consistency between 5.1 and 2-ch matrix.) And this is probably what happened with T2. Just a thought. Personally I don't like the idea of creating a consumer discrete mix with the idea of tinkering with the LFE.

Best regards,
Perry
