: I wonder if I should spend $500 to add a THX card to my MX-130.

THX is a combination of specifications and proprietary circuits that were developed by Lucasfilm to reproduce in the home the same sound that the director heard at the dubbing console when the movie was mixed.

If you are interested in building a home theater that will give you a movie theater experience then yes.

A THX controller is the heart of a THX system. Add amps, speakers and other THX components to complete the system. Check the THX web site for more complete information.

:Can I play the vcr movies on THX mode and get the full effects ? or do I have to get movies recorded on THX in order to take full advantage of it.

THX processing works with all software ie:VHS, DVD, Laser Disk etc. The THX logo on software means it was
transferred using THX standards for high quality reproduction. There is no such thing as "recorded in THX". Every thing you play through a THX controller will benefit.

The THX controller provides: Bass Management, Re-Equalization, Timber Matching and Decorrelation.

I hope this helps. Drop me an e-mail if you want more info.
