Copying Audio CDs

With a computer CD-R drive you are just copying a set of files from the audio CD to the CD-R just as you would any other data file. There are however some differences in procedure - with a CD-R audio deck you can copy a track at a time, whereas I believe with a CD-R drive you have to assemble all the tracks you want to burn in a separate directory first and copy them all to the CD-R in one go. Another difference is in the type of disc you can record on - consumer CD-R decks will only record on "audio" spec CD-R discs which cost more as the cost includes a pre-paid music industry royalty, whereas a CD-R drive (and most pro level CD-R decks) will record on "data" spec dics, which are considerably cheaper. I have CD-R's and RW's that I have recorded on my own Marantz CDR-640 and discs that others have burned on CD-R drives and I detect no difference in sound quality. If the data makes it to the target disc intact it will sound just like the original, if it gets corrupted you will hear nothing.
