Copying vinyl to CD

Question: What's a good, cheap (oxymoron?) piece of software for removing clicks, hiss, etc, and where do I find it? There are a couple of options, you can filter clicks etc., in real-time when recording to your hard-drive or remove them later from the .wav file before burning it to CD-R. The second option is more effective and when I tried the filter method I came to the conclusion the software was simply masking the frequencies at which clicks commonly occur. Someone has already mentioned Spin Doctor which is bundled with the Deluxe edition of Adaptec's CD creation software and it's not half bad. You'll need to experiment a little though. I actually use CoolEdit Pro from Syntrillium (link below) but it's not cheap. Far from it, $400. Ouch. However, the results are superb (even if the PC, a powerful one too, takes ages to process the files). I found an LP I listened to as a child, Wally Whyton's 50 Playtime Songs which looked and sounded as though Torvil and Dean had been skating on the surface. After CoolEdit had done it's stuff the result had no pops, clicks and no surface noise. What I did was promise to copy some of my friends cherished discs to CD-R and asked for a donation from each of them to ease the burden. If you're going to record a lot of discs it'll take some time but you'll be thrilled with the results. Try downloading the demo and get back to us with your thoughts.
