Joe, There are a lot of CDs on the market recently that have raised the bar of sound standards. Here's a few I've picked up: A number of titles from the Verve Master Edition series, including Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington, and Sonny Rollins. You can check out Verve's somewhat limited information on their web site at www.verveinteractive.com. The Duke Ellington/Johnny Hodges "Side by Side" has incredible sound; it sounds as if Mr. Hodges is standing in my living room playing his tenor sax. Plus, Verve is now remastering these classic albums in 24-bit/96kHz sound and is a big improvement over their already great-sounding 20-bit remasterings. A lot of Mobile Fidelity 24K gold CDs. Unfortunately the Pink Floyd "Wall" CD set that Duke mentioned has been out of print for about 9 years on the Mobile Fidelity label, so you'll have to try to find this one used (good luck finding it, and expect to pay at least US$50). Mobile Fidelity continues to release CDs in their gold series in limited quantities, and they all sound great. DCC also reissues 24K gold CDs. Again, sound is great, and they have a number of "classic" rock recordings available, including The Doors, The Eagles, and Creedence Clearwater Revival. Deep Purple's "Machine Head" 25th Anniversary edition. Sound quality vs. the original CD release is nearly unbelievable. I was totally blown away. This is on the Warner Archives label. It's been a long time since I've purchased a Telarc CD, but the ones I have sound real good. The reissues of the Star Wars soundtracks have good sound, plus restore all the music from the films in the proper sequence. The booklets with the Special Editions of these CDs are also done quite well. I don't know about the "standard" editions of these releases that are now in the stores, but you still may be able to find someone with the Special Editions. Good luck and happy listening! Andrew
