Lucas confirms Star Wars long wait..
Posted by richard plumb [IP: 194.242.130.101] on July 16, 1999 at 04:48:30 On the Big Breakfast this morning (a UK breakfast TV show), George Lucas was answering questions from the public. One of them was "why haven't you released Star Wars on DVD yet?". The reply was "I want to wait until we have all six films finished". The presenter replied "we have to wait *that* long? But you have the original trilogy digitally mastered now don't you?", to which Lucas replied "Yes, but I want to do a box set of six". Now, that wouldn't be out until around 2006, which seems a bit silly. Not only does it mean waiting a long time for the original trilogy, it would suggest that each of the next three films won't be released individually on DVD. How can Lucas (and Fox) deny themselves the revenue that would generate? Did they wait until doing all three godfathers before putting them out on VHS? No. They could easily do an original trilogy now, then a six-box set in seven years. I hope he's bluffing.
