But, don't forget that THX is not a format per se, but rather a set of standards and certification programme. Equipment meeting those standards is certified as such, so that consumers at least know that the equipment meets someone's standards in a limited number of areas. THX for cinema purposes is not the same as home THX or THX ULTRA.

In any event THX certification or lack of it is no guarantee of performance - there is some pretty crappy THX gear out there and some manufacturers rely on their products to speak for themselves and chose not to seek certification (and pay the fee that goes along with it).

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against THX, but there does seem to be confusion as to exactly what it is, and I have wandered way off-topic.
