The BBC (and ITV/Channel 4) have been broadcasting lots in anamorphic since the launch of digital. Their standard BBC1 and BBC2 output on digital satellite and terrestrial is great if you have a widescreen set. Nearly all of their new output is anamorphic 16:9.

I have been especially enjoying ITV recently. They are in the middle of a 'double O heaven' series. They are showing all of the Bond movies in sequence, culminating in either Goldeneye or TMD (I can't remember which). All of them are being broadcast in anamorphic widescreen and look great! The downside is no Dolby Digital yet, but we have prologic.

: Richard

: : What I can't understand is how they can release on Laserdisc, which I think has an install base of around 2.5 million in the U.S., and not on DVD which has already hit that mark.

: The original LDs were released way before the idea of the prequels was conceived.

: :Why not release now and then again after all the films are done? I mean, *six* years? I don't think they would be accused of money grabbing by releasing two sets of films six years apart.

: I am sure there is method in his madness, but I'll be damned if I can find it!!

: : ...and 'Jaws' is on BBC1 this weekend (hopefully in anamporphic widescreen - most of their film output is!)

: When did Auntie Beeb start doing that? Must have been after I left in 1995 to go and live in the colonies!! Is that just on digital satellite or do they broadcast movies in that format on the terrestrial channels? US broadcasters have a lot to learn!
