Yes, I have noticed this difference. I chalk it up to the effects of the "compression" required for both audio and video on DVD.

FWIW, my "Silverado" Laserdisc has a similar "problem" - I need to crank the volume almost 10dB HIGHER than other laserdiscs. Not a problem - more like a slight "annoyance"... ;)
