It's entirely possible the "Dolby Digital" bitstream is nothing more than ProLogic.

You MIGHT want to try these steps, if you haven't already done so:

1) Start the disc and let it "get going".
2) IMMEDIATELY stop the disc and access the disc's MENU (via the "MENU" remote button).
3) Select the "Sound track" (or similar) option from the MENU.
4) If there's a "Dolby Digital" entry, select it with the remote. If not, you're stuck, the box is "mis-labeled", and all you can do is enjoy the ProLogic soundtrack mix (which IS NOT that bad! :) ).
5) Return to the main MENU page and select the "PLAY" option.

The disc should now use the "Dolby Digital" track (if there was a menu selection). If the DD indicator on your receiver doesn't illuminate, then all you have is a ProLogic audio mix.

FWIW, I've discovered COLUMBIA/TRI-STAR DVDs "default" to the ANALOG (ProLogic) sound tracks. I have to perform the above steps to ensure I get the Dolby Digital feed "from the start". :)
