I think why most people (myself included)are upset with Divx is that DVD is still basically in its infancy. While DVD is gaining in popularity, the last thing it needs is two different formats to confuse the mass consumer. This will only slow the acceptance process of DVD. There isn't room at this point for two different formats to survive.

Additionally, Divx players takes a back seat in video quality and software extras that open DVD provides. So buying a Divx player to play both formats is depriving others of a better quality option.
