DIVX is fine for me Posted by Brad [IP: 139.95.251.1] on December 02, 1998 at 17:40:47: In Reply to: DIVX is fine for me posted by Charles Nguyen on December 01, 1998 at 12:34:00: : Stop crying and start dealing with Progress. I don't think you are talking to the kind of people who are sniveling about something that they consider "progress." Divx is a bad idea, Charles. You must understand that something offering no actual value to a consumer is NOT a product representative of progress. I now am to the point that I am glad that people who think Divx is the 8th wonder will go out and buy a player. It will be a rude awakening for you when you realize the inconvenience this format will provide you. I for one would never allow myself to be monitored to determine what type of movie I watch. Your mailbox will get filled with every piece of junk imaginable when you start making those payments to Divx. They are going to sell Divx customer's names like wildfire. As long as people keep talking about the disadvantages of Divx, the format will be doomed. So Charles, don't expect anyone to stop "crying" about having obsolete DVD players. DO expect us argue logically about the advantages and disadvantages of one technology over another. Divx doesn't fall into the realm of a technology, however. It is merely a tool by which consumers must pay more for enjoying movies they could have enjoyed even more with a standard DVD player. "Divx-enhanced" is a deceptive statement. I have visited Circuit City stores frequently in the past few months to interrupt salespeople and to make sure that consumers know what their buying. I am afraid to say that Divx appears to be selling well. It is very appealing to people to be able to take ten discs home for "free", even though they don't own them and they are not DVD discs. I will continue to do my part in shutting down this idiotic idea and those who are supporting it. Never buy Circuit City's products. They don't give a damn about consumers.
