Hamburger Hill: lock-up problem

Posted by Nigel Pond [SysOp] [IP: 206.241.18.4] on January 22, 1999 at 10:52:49:

I just had Hamburger Hill delievered. At around the 49'55" mark on a transition between scenes, the disc locks-up on me. I backed up and tried a few times with the same result. Anyone else having the same problem? (My DVD player is a Theta DaViD - based on a Pioneer disc transport and MPEG board - so any Pioneer players having the problem?)

It may the layer switch point causing the problem (this transfer is encoded at a very high data rate - a minimum of 8 Mbps [out of a max 10] from my player's meter) so the layer switch must come ealrier than usual with other discs.

BTW apart from this problem, this is a very nice DVD version of the movie. Due to the high data rate (and anamorphic transfer) the video quality is outstanding and the DD5.1 soundtrack very involving.
