Most DVD's are in widescreen which is the original theatrical version of the film, showing the movie as the director intended it to be seen. When the picture is altered (Pan and Scan) to fit a 4:3 screen there can be significant loss of content. There are many disks that have both widescreen and P&S but far more are widescreen only. So far most of the people in to DVD prefer widescreen. I think that the studios should include both versions so that they will reach a larger audiance and if you want to see more P&S let them know! I personally watch the widescreen versions of the films prefering to see the "whole picture" and am not bothered by the black bars at all. 2.35:1 is kind of rough on a 27", much better on my new 36" :-)
