This is correct. You need to buy a convertor box to receive HDTV signals on the VS-50803. However, there are a lot of nice things the line quadrupling does for normal NTSC programming. I like this model because it is a good bridge for NTSC and HDTV. However, you would be nuts to spend $3000 on a convertor with no standards in place. Even the Mits rep discouraged people from buying it at this time. If you are looking to spend $$ on a HDTV compatable RPTV, this is a nice choice.
