I appreciate your imput, but unfortunately it didn't work. I calibrated the tv with video essentials, and none of the setting were really extreme.

After staring at this this for what seems like days, I think a more accurate description would be that the tv has two lines with small shadows that makes it look like a 3D bar. The TV repair folk came and looked at it today, and they didn't have a clue. It wasn't a ground loop or any of the settings. I'll let you know how sony handles it from here. So far so good.
