Check out the manufacture date on the unit. if it is less than seven years old then send it to Sony at one of their factory repair centers. They have a flat rate repair an all Sony equipment. A VCR is $158.00 plus shipping, no matter what is wrong (except cosmetic or abuse).I have used this on a couple of units that the local shop said was in need of too many parts to repair. Sony Factory Repair shops dop a great job. I use the Seattle location on Fidalgo st.
