Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Recommendations Posted by LarryC [IP: 162.93.14.66] on December 11, 1998 at 10:50:28: In Reply to: Surge Protector/Line Conditioner Recommendations posted by Paul V on December 11, 1998 at 09:06:39: : Seems like there are a thousand brands and models of surge protectors out there. Makes you wonder just how hard it is to make one and just how important it is. I must have 10 different ones and not really sure which ones are really good. : Curious to know what surge protectors people think are the top brands/lines. : Which are the best and which ones should we stay away from? : Anybody have any horror stories? : Anybody actually have damage through one with a guarantee? Did they live up to the guarantee? Was it a hassle? : etc., etc., etc. I have had very good luck with the PanaMax-1500. Earlier this year, we experienced a Power outage, courtesy of my local power company (PG&E). Power surged and dropped while my electronic equipment was operating. End result, two household circuit breaker were "fried!"...but, all electrical components attached to the Panamax worked fine. The unit also provides surge protection for your phoneline and cable TV system. Minor problem: the rear dimmer switch isn't designed too well...switch is smaller than opening and it fell into the unit. I took it into Panamax and they repaired it on the spot. I believe the new model has more features and and LCD display. I am sure there are other good surge protectors, but I have been very please with the Panamax product and customer support.
