Hitachi RPTVs - Look good, but are they? [ Follow-ups ] [ Post Follow-up ] [ SMR Forum 6 Archive 1 - Video Hardware - DVD, LD, TVs, Projectors ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Leo Vildosola [IP: 192.197.118.240] on December 23, 1998 at 22:09:22: In Reply to: Hitachi RPTVs - Look good, but are they? posted by kengle on December 23, 1998 at 18:50:13: : I have an 50SBX72 (earlier model). I am curious, you mentioned video noise on the set you calibrated. What does it look like? The reason I am asking is that my set seems to display very faint wavy lines that sort of move on lighter backgrounds (like whites, gray, or light blues). I can only notice it on higher resolution sources like DVD and DSS. I've tried everything. Even connecting the DVD player straight to the TV and plugging the TV and player to different circuits. Even turned my fridge off while I tested! : Is this what you mean by noise? Is this fixable, or am I going to have to get the TV replaced? : I could use some advice, this is driving crazy! Some of the noise I saw was what you describe here. Do you happen to have a Pioneer player? The reason I ask is that the owner of the set went through the same troubleshooting you describe. He finally decided to remove the DVD player from the setup altogether and the waivy lines went away. It appears as though the noise was being introduced by the DVD player itself. Perhaps the player's power supply. The noise I was describing in my post was more like fine dots (snow) as the picture was moving. Once it became static the noise was not noticeable. In fact, I could not notice it during regular playback unless I was really looking for it. I have seen this same problem with ProScan sets as well. I would suggest you try removing your DVD player from the setup and see if you get the same wavy lines with your DSS signal. If you don't, then you could safely conclude that your DVD player is the culprit. There could be something wrong with the power supply of the DVD player causing this noise to filter through to your TV set. Leo
