: Well as far as i know, if you're referring
: to the 61XBR200, this is still a standard
: definition set. It has an integral
: line-doubler (DRC circuitry) but still
: basically NTSC. It will not support
: 1080i or 720p or even 480p, it is not
: a multiscan unit. It will support
: 480i and internally convert to 480p
: via DRC engine, but this is not as
: good as a 480 progressive input.

: There will definitely be converters
: at some point, once most programming is
: HD, to convert HD to NTSC to keep
: all those old analog sets going.
: This is still quite a ways out though.

: As far as your 61 accepting output from
: some HD to NTSC convertor, say via its
: component inputs, no, it will not
: compare to HDTV resolution, it will
: be a downconversion.

: Tough time to buy a RPTV now, i guess
: SONY will be releasing a full HD
: compatible 65 or 70" 16:9 XBR TV
: this fall, horrendous price, but
: shows you the direction they're going.

: Me, i'll rely on my trusty ol' 46V15
: for a few more years, than maybe 16:9
: HD RPTV of 4:3 RPTV with vertical
: squeeze.

Thanks, for the note... You're right about now being a tough time to buy a RPTV. I had an imeediate need as my 52" 10yr old Phillips had hit the wall, so I was looking for the best picture possible. I am/was considering getting an HDTV without the converter and just watch NTSC on it... What are your thoughts on that?
