Dino,

Here in the UK, most home theatre buffs source most of their software (laserdisc and now DVD) from America, therefore our TV market caters for NTSC source material.

If you purchase a TV here, which you will have to do because your U.S. TV will not be able to receive off-air or satellite broadcasts, you will be able to choose from models which are truly NTSC compatible. You will not need transcoding. Transcoding from NTSC to PAL will also introduce a degradation in image quality.

Your receiver does not control the format of the images passed through it so that is a transparent component. Your sources can still be connected to it and then its monitor output to your (new) multi-standard TV.

Just one thing to note… does your Yamaha have an radio tuner? Unless you can get Yamaha to switch the frequency blocks it will not be able to receive all AM radio broadcasts.

So, my advice - forget the transcoder, buy a new multi-standard (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) television and you're set!

Oh, and don't forget you'll need a step-down transformer to convert the 240v AC mains supply to 110v.

Stuart.
