Which Room to go for??

Posted by SJ Hart on September 25, 1998 at 13:15:19:

Our home theater is currently our family room. We have a 35" TV and other gear (DVD, LD, DD, DSS, etc). Now I would like to add a front projection system (probably a 100" 16:9 format). However, the BAD points of this room are: two windows and a sliding glass door which would need some coverings, difficulty in setting up the projector and screen and my wife who currently refuses to let me add a projector/screen to this room. She doesn't like it so LOUD! GOOD things include the room size 18' X 22' and ALL of my equipment is already in place. I would just have to plug in the projector into the alternate monitor out of the Onkyo 939 and run component output from my Sony 7000. Of course, I would have to get this to the projector! (which might not be fun). Now for option 2 (which my wife has suggested). Convert our study into a home theater. BAD things are the size 12x18 and I would have to leave my desk/PC in the back of the room). GOOD things are that the room has only one window and is totally enclosed. (With the doors shut and the right window shade this room could easily be made pitch dark.) If I did this option, I would leave the 35" TV in the family room and only have the projector system in the study. I would have to move my gear to this room and put some of my older stuff :) back into the family room. Any opinions? Is it better to have a smaller room that is dedicated to home theater or a larger "multi-purpose" room. Thank you. Steve
