I would go for the Larger "multipurpose room." The other seems too narrow for 100" screen etc.
I have mine set up in a 19X22 room using the short dimension for the projection. I would go for the long dimension if at all possible. I also have a 100" screen which comes down (by motor) right in fron of the 35" TV and the rest of the eqipment (the remotes work quite well thru the screen). I also have a couple of pinballs in the room as well.
I have a large sliding glass door which uses standard verticals with material inserts using a 600 Lumen projector. I still found it absolutely necessary to add black art board along the top of the valence. This does wonders. You could use this method for your windows too. However, you may find you use the projector mostly at night anyway.
I put a curtain that hangs 12" down around the screen and wraps a foot on each side. This hides the screen pretty well (when rolled up) from being so obtrusively black and also gives a "theatre" like appearance. I had to use heavy Romex wire for the "rod" and my wife made the curtain, since no one makes anything that long.
For sound proofing I installed a heavy door to the room (there wasn't one there before) and 10 sound absorbing panels made of type 703 Corning fiberglass covered with thin material (2X4X2" - <$6 ea). This keeps most of noise inside the room (no acoustic ceiling), though at 80db levels my wife complains a little when trying to watch TV in the next room.
The projector hangs about 12' back from the screen pretty much overhead. It looks a little obtrusive but still clears my head (I'm 6'5") on a 8ft ceiling. You get used to it. The hard part was bringing the cables across all those rafters and patching up the ceiling.
The only thing I regret is that the room isn't any deeper than 19' since I would rather the rears sit back farther from the couch. Certainly the width of the room compliments the 7.1 channel surround quite well.
Hope this helps a little. Good luck. -Carey
