Problem playing VCD on Pioneer DV-505

my friend recently gave me copies of VCD's that he copied himself using a CD recorder. The blank CDs used were the ones you usually buy in computer stores. These CD's have either a gold, blue or green bottom side. The copied VCD works fine on my PC but when i play it on the DVD player, it just ejects it out. So we tried to use silver bottom colored CDs, but we still encountered the same problem. I have bought a number of VCDs from a vendor and those work fine on both the DVD player and PC, but everytime we use a "copied" VCD, it doesnt work on the DVD player. I have read the files in the working VCDs i purchased using my computer and compared it to the files in our copied VCD and they all have identical file structures. Is the problem in the type of CD used or does it have something to do with the DVD protection scheme?
