Kent, I'm looking at the D50Q, and since you have one... re: the aspect ratio change, will it switch memory settings if it detects a different sync signal? In other words, say you have a SVHS plugged in (NTSC 15.75 kHz signal) and a separate RGBS input with a 31.5 kHz line doubled signal. If you have a memory setting for the RGBS input to be at 16:9 ratio, and the S-VHS to be at 4:3, will it switch automatically between the two? (Because my multisync computer monitor reverts to the appropriate memorized settings when it detects a certain sync signal).

Another related question is, have you successfully tried using a programmable remote control with macros to control the aspect ratio switching? $100 for a remote would be cheaper than $3000 for the D50HTU!!! (I'm planning on getting the Deuce video scaler and the SD7108 DVD with artifact-free progressive-scan output, which obviates the HTU's built-in doubler.)

Also, I'm noticing there are a lot of DVDs only available in 4:3 letterbox!!! Since 4:3 cuts chunks off the L and R of your 16:9 screen, and the letterbox format cuts chunks off the top & bottom of the already-small 4:3 image area, you're left with a cute little tiny letterbox picture in the middle of your screen (in the same shape as but much smaller than your 16:9 screen). Have you tried enlarging your picture size to fill the 16:9 wide screen? Yes, it would be lower resolution, but at least a satisfying size!

: I don't believe Sony is shipping the VPHD50HTU yet. I thought I saw somewhere that it will ship in october.
: The VPHD50HTU is same as the VPHD50Q with either new firmware or one enhanced circuit board. The Display electronics, housing, inputs, tubes and optics are identical. I have a D50Q, it produces a great picture, which you can't touch for the money. The HTU fixes some annoying things about the D50Q for home theater. You can change aspect ratios with one button. With the D50Q, you have to go through a two level menu with maybe 10 button pushes. Also, you can get perfect geometry with each aspect ratio, which on the D50Q you can only do if you change input H sync freq or physical input.
