I have a Mitsu VCR and a JVC VCR along with a non-hifi Panasonic. The Mitsu is still quite good in display and sound for something that's over 12 years old, but it no longer rewinds or fast forwards. It started happening 5 years ago, and we got it fixed only to see the problem come back soon after. That's why I recently got the JVC one which is about 2 years old. I really can't say this one won't have problems, because it isn't very old.

At this point, I'm not sure if it's that important to get "the best" VCR around. Unless both my hifi VCRs break beyond repair, I don't think I'll buy another VCR for the rest of my life.
