SVHS? How does it do on normal VHS Tapes?

VHS plays no better or worse that I can tell.
As far as S-VHS is concerned, a higher-end machine might provide a better picture (less loss) when transferring from Hi-8. At least I remember my high-end Sony doing a much better job than the Mits 790U. Though you pay twice as much for it and have potentially more problems to fix. The little bit of improvement may not be worth it to most. There are some slightly more expensive units with Time Base Correctors, but someone else will have to say whether this makes any noticeable improvement.

: I have a Sony Hi8 camcorder and thought it would be a good idea to get an S-VHS VCR to go with it.

: What I am curious about is how well this type of VCR will do playing movies in normal VHS format. Better, worse, no difference?

: Reading the list I see two models discussed: Mits. 790U and JVC5400 are there others to consider? Sony?
