: I'm looking at DVD currently and am aware of the soon-to-be-released-in-the-uk Pioneer DV-717, which I assume is the UK variant of a current US player. Does anyone have any opinions on this, as it's cheaper than my alternative - the Sony DVP-S715, and can also read DTS, which the Sony can't. I can see myself going for DTS somtime, so if the Pioneer's better than the Sony, then it would be the obvious choice.
: What would anyone recommend?? I'm also asking from a standpoint of music reproduction, although it takes second place to video quality, obviously.

: Cheerz

I tried out the Sony DVP-S300 and the Pioneer DV-414. Here in the states, the Sony is $499 and the Pioneer is $399. I ended up keeping the Pioneer because it passes the DTS signal, has component video outs, and is cheaper. I couldn't notice any difference in video quality and the Pioneer sounded a little "warmer" when used for audio cd's. (this is my personal preference) To me it seemed the better bargain.
