Posted by Mike Ferlisi [IP: 204.177.81.142] on February 25, 1999 at 19:32:28 In Reply to: Just received my 36XBR200 and... posted by Bill Brooks on February 24, 1999 at 15:05:44: "Manual degaussing" requires a technician to move a degaussing coil back and forth in front of the CRT in order to remove any residual magnetic field which the internal deguassing coil is unable to remove from the metal aperture(shadow) mask in the CRT.However the "darkening" and screen rotation problems you describe suggest a deflection yoke misalignment.Yoke positioning on the CRT neck is responsible for pic rotation an screen purity.Purity is the term used to describe the ability of the CRT to display a pure color raster (usually R,G,B)with no changes in shade or intensity.Purity problems are most apparent around the edges or corners of the CRT if the yoke is misaligned.Try to display a solid green picture(red and blue will work also)and verify the screen is "pure" with no blotches or shade variations.If purity and tilt need to be corrected,Sony authorized service should be used.Since the set is in warranty they may come to your home without charging you a trip charge.In any case there should be no charge for the actual repair.Hope this has been of some help to you.Mike
