Sure, if you have $7500 burning a hole in your pocket. However in just a few years, they'll be available under $2000.

I believe market acceptance of HDTV will be just like the consumer adoption of color TV--very slow. Color TV's were introduced in 1954, but barely made a dent in the marketplace until the mid-60's as most people were content with their B&W's and color programming was limited. Finally as prices came down and programming increased, it took off; its sales dramatically increased right up into the 80's, until most everyone had at least one or two.

Innovative products always sell slowly at first, as only the early-adopters will pay the premium to be he first one on the block to have it. Then the successful ones rise exponentially until they've reach the market potential, and gradually level off. A graph of sales over time will look like an italic "S".

The question is when the rise will begin. CD and VCR only took a few years, but we all know someone who dropped a grand on an early 2-head, mono VCR or basic single tray CD player. Now these can be had for under $100.

That is why I recently decided to opt for a plain, old 32" TV. It will serve my DVD & DSS just fine for the next 5-6 years. By then, I'll want a new TV, and HDTV should be better supported and more affordable--and I'll still be 3rd or 4th on the block with one.
